Boris Becker visits Dubai Autism Center as Autism awareness campaign swings into higher gear

event23 October 2008: Six-time tennis grand slam winner, Boris Becker recently visited the Dubai Autism Center (DAC) while in the city for the launch of the Boris Becker Beach Resort & Tennis Academy - partly owned by the tennis legend himself, and brought to market by ACI Real Estate. During his visit to the Center, Becker met with the therapists and management to understand the specific challenges faced by Dubai as community in responding to this social concern. Becker who also had a chance to interact with some of the children at the Center said, 'The Center is doing some great work and I am very pleased to have had a chance to meet the kids - they are awesome. I strongly encourage corporations and the general public to support the Center's fund raising efforts so that it may continue with the good work already started.

DAC Launches Ramadan Campaign on the Early Signs of Autism

eventIn Ramadan 2008, Dubai Autism Centerís has launched an awareness campaign on Autism. The campaign aimed to raise awareness on the early signs of Autism highlighting the difficulties of the verbal communication signs. It aimed also to raise funds during the Holy month of Ramadan and Eidís holidays through selling DAC T-shirts, sunshades, and wristbands.

For the first time not only in Dubai but also in the region, Special Needs Educators were honored within the Special Educators Day 2008 on May 19 at Johara Ballroom in Madinat Jumerah, for their exceptional efforts and for the difference they make in the lives of children with Special Needs and their families.

Over 300 educators, including clinical psychologists, speech therapists, occupational, movement therapists, music therapists, computer therapists, art therapists and caregivers, were recognized and awarded certificates by H.E. Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, representative of H.R.H. Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai.

groupThe spectacular event was recognized by Dubai Autism Center, which was the host of the honored Special Needs centers in Dubai like Al Noor Center, Dubai Center for Special Needs, Dubai Autism Center, Senses, Sheikha Maitha Bint Rashid Al Maktoum Center, Special Needs Family Group, and Rashid Pediatric Center.


The 2nd Annual Motorbike Run for Autism

eventTo keep pace with the international awareness campaign of Autism during April "Autism month", Dubai Autism Center (DAC) organized the second motorbike rally aiming to raise awareness.

Around 50 motor-bike riders participated in the second annual Motorbike rally which commenced from Radisson SAS Hotel - Media City touring different parts of Deira and Bur Dubai which came to an end at DAC premises where the riders had been received by DAC children, families and staff.

eventUnder the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, President of the Executive Council of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Autism Center, during April International Autism Awareness Month, Dubai Autism Center organized the 1st Practitioner's Conference on Autism 2008, which took place on Saturday April 5, 2008 in the Dubai Knowledge Village.

The conference had been held in collaboration with a number of professors from international universities such as Oxford, Birmingham of UK, Minnesota and Harvard University of US. It focused on early intervention which targets at screening and diagnosing children with Autism at the earliest possible stage. In particular, the Practitioner's conference targeted physicians, pediatricians, and primary health care nurses.

DAC Held Open Day for Children with Autism

open dayDubai Ė UAE: In collaboration with Children's City in Dubai, the Dubai Autism Center held an Open Day for the children with Autism and their families. Children enjoyed the Open Day with their families. As well as a number of teachers and volunteers are also who are also attended. The event included a variety of entertaining programs with and fun environment like face painting, workshops, bouncing castles, luncheon and many more activities available.

It is the fourth year since organizing the first Open Day in March 2005 which the Family Club of DAC has run. The event represents an important part of DAC's strategy enhancing the communications with families of DAC children among an atmosphere of joy and fun.

Boxing Champions Visit DAC

boxingOn Tuesday February 5th 2008, Dubai Autism Center welcomed both boxing stars, Michael Moorer the heavyweight and the lightweight world champion, and Eisa Al Dah the UAE professional boxer. The visit began with touring of DAC's various units and classrooms, Moorer and Al Dah shared with the children their lessons' activities and games. They have been briefed with a presentation on Autism Spectrum Disorders and the Center's services delivered by Ms. Sarah Al Marzooqi OT & Creative Unit Coordinator of DAC.

DAC participates in the Sharjah World Book Fair 2007

Book FairDubai Autism Center introduced to the Sharjah World Book Fair 2007 a group of valuable books, which belong to international institutions as the British society "The National Autistic Society" and the American laboratories "The Great Plains Laboratory". The exhibited books differed to comply with readership's diversity between professional, academic, and parents. The SWBF started from December 5th - 14th 2007.

DAC Participates in DICD Football Tournament

EventUnder the patronage of Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, The first Football tournament on the level of Dubai charitable institutions had been launched with the participation of 8 teams including DAC's football team. The tournament is held on the stadium of The Services and engineering Department in Al Qusais Area. Its aim is strengthening the social ties between these institutions.


DAC Celebrate UAE National Day

EventDubai Autism Center celebrated the 36th UAE National Day with activities taking place on the DAC's premises throughout the day. The event included students, parents, and staff. The activities contained competitions, presentations, poetry reading and other cultural and traditional activities

Among the activities was a mini-exhibition for traditional and cultural items highlighting the importance of philanthropy and its intrinsic relation to the UAE's culture.

World & Arab Celebrities Visit DAC

EventYusra, Rachel Hunter, Sulaf Fwakherji, Tamer Hagras, Zeid Al Refai, Waad, , Kaz Money, Milad Youssef, Karl Wolf, and representatives from General Motors (GM) Ms Sadaa Hammad, and Claire Lewis were welcomed by DAC to be briefed by a presentation on the DAC's services and Autism. Then, they tour the center and enjoy special moments with some of the center's children with Autism. This visit is part of the prestigious General Motors Style Event Dubai held in the evening of 11th November, 2007.
