Dubai – 6 November 2012:
Dubai Autism Center announces its publishing of the first bilingual encyclopedia on autism, titled Autism Encyclopedia. The encyclopedia includes references from various specialized books and recent scientific research. It has six chapters that address all aspects of autism from its definitions, characteristics, possible causes, to the various available intervention programs. It was compiled and translated to Arabic by a committee of specialists from various disciplines at the Dubai Autism Center.
The announcement came upon the commencement of the Sharjah World Book Fair, where the encyclopedia is exhibited among a number of valuable books on autism by the Dubai Autism Center’s stand.
Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General and Board Member of the Dubai Autism Center said: “the scarcity of resources in the Arabic library about one of the most common disorders compelled the center to publish this Autism Encyclopedia. This publication aims at providing assistance to parents of children diagnosed with autism, their caregivers and to professionals working in the special education field; in addition to spreading awareness and knowledge about this disorder,”
He also added: “We hope that readers will find answers to all their questions about this most puzzling and mysterious disorder. We also trust that it will be a reference to all those working in the field of autism and to the parents, as it provides information, advise and instructions on how to overcome obstacles and tackle the daily challenges of taking care of a child with autism,”
Dr. Mohammed Fteiha, Head of the Encyclopedia Committee, said: “This encyclopedia is one of the few resources that have comprehensive information about autism. What makes this encyclopedia special is that it includes references from various specialized books and recent scientific research that was compiled and translated to Arabic by a ten committee members who worked tirelessly over an eighteen months,”
